The Story of Inis Cologne

Developed by us in conjunction with the perfumer Arthur Burnham, Inis is a daring and seductive perfume blend based on a rugged and robust muguet (lily-of-the-valley) to embody the coolness, clarity, energy and purity of the sea. Added to this is a top note of sparkling, diffusive citrus notes along with traces of marine notes, balanced with base notes of sandalwood and oak moss and deepened with spice notes of cloves and nutmeg. In all, a scent that moves people at many different levels.

The best of Irish and French design, the bottle is a simple frosted flagon that lets the purity of the liquid shine through. The cap has been sculpted exclusively for Inis by the Parisian design house Ateliers Dinand and is reminiscent of two large glass pebbles one could find on a beach. The carton has been designed by one of the leading and most cutting-edge Irish design and photographic houses, Photographics, and embodies entirely our message about the importance and energy of the sea, working through colour and shape.

Inis is inspired by the sea, which gives us the colour, the energy, the freshness to infuse our scent and designs. Inis was launched in 1998 - the UN Year of the Oceans and the year of the Lisbon World Expo with its theme of 'The Oceans. A heritage for the future'.

The sea and an island give us the powerful message behind Inis, that no one is an island - we are all connected, not just literally by seas but also by our dreams and experience. Inis salutes the growing realisation, entering a new millennium, that we must all change to improve our lives and the planet we all inhabit. We can all make a difference: A Sea Change - for all of us.

To illustrate our message we use 'Seven Surfing Dolphins' the award-winning photograph by Australian Tony Karacsonyi of seven dolphins in one wave: expressing the energy of the sea and the calming colour of azure blue. Dolphins communicate through sentience (energy and feeling) - perhaps these intelligent creatures are showing us how to live in harmony with each other?

In line with the New Age, Inis is in tune with the new 'Anada-Khandra' chakra which is located in the upper chest between the heart chakra (associated with the colour green) and the throat chakra (blue). The Anada-Khandra chakra's colour is blue-green or turquoise and its symbol is a dolphin; which matches perfectly the award-winning 'Seven Surfing Dolphins' image that we use; and it is the colour of the Age of Aquarius, which we entered at the turn of the century. The new chakra represents mass communication through love, a freedom and intelligence linked with feeling, a growing realisation that we are all connected and that we can change things for the better.
